JD Hobby Center's humble beginnings of 1600 square feet of retail space has grown to be the largest Hobby Center in Southern California with 10,000 square feet of the most unique collectibles and supplies anywhere. JD Hobbies is a registered Tamiya and Lionel dealer.
Services
JD Hobby Center sells many different types of models including but not limited to cars, planes, tanks, ships, military vehicles, and terrain in both kit and pre-built forms. Looking for something unique? We offer custom building services and can build dioramas, cases, and plaques for existing models. There are also an extensive library featuring biographies, history books, and even some novels. If model building is not your thing there is a considerable amount of movie memorabilia and nostalgic toys for you to peruse.
History
Louis Lee, the owner of JD Hobbies, started out originally in the extremely competitive food service industry. After 20 years of hard work he decided to go do something a little less strenuous. While looking around for a good venture Louis thought back to his youth where he would constantly spend part of his allowance to purchase models to build. Then a stroke of luck came when Louis found a small hobby store called Aviation Hobbies who's owner was considering retiring. A deal was quickly struck and Louis re named the store JD Hobbies after the old restaurant he ran, Java Dog. He ran this store for a few years gathering a loyal customer base before another opportunity struck. A much bigger space (10,000 square feet) had opened up downtown. Making the bold and risky decision Louis decided to move his store and was greeted to 700 happy customers at the new locations grand opening. To this day the store is doing well in it's new location offering many services you can not find online including custom builds, great customer service, and that patented JD hobbies charm.
